The boys and their new critters :) Football Season!!

Abram

Jacob

The boys and their new kittens.
Isaac

We have been busy working in the garden. Canning alot. Putting a swimming pool up.
Isaac may start football practice Monday. My boys love sports and have played lots of football, baseball and basketball in the past. This will be the first time since diagnosis that Isaac will be playing football. He will be playing on our local jr. high team. Lots to learn with this new adventure-figuring it all out..keeping the lows at bay....but I will not let diabetes hold him back from anything. Jacob has already been practicing with the high school. I always enjoyed football-but when my boys are playing it makes me nervous..LOL

Our saline trial with the omnipod begins......

Our omnipod rep. Leah  talking Isaac through his pdm functions and filling his pod.

Putting on his pod.

Omnipod supplies/resource books.

Checking to see how well the pod is adhesed.

Getting ready to start the pod.

Checking to see how the catheter looks.
He said it didn't hurt :)
I already REALLY like the pod!
Blessed
My husband, mom, sister and some siblings/cousins being supportive!
Thankful for my family and that they are willing and wanting to be a part of Isaac's diabetes care.

Our Garden, A Salad and higher BG's..........

Lettuce and spinach

Mustard greens.

Onions, Cabbage, Peppers, Golden Queen Corn, Tomatoes, Half Runner and Pink Tip Green Beans.
You can see the beans and corn are up about 2-3 inches.

Some salad made from our garden greens.

The garden is doing well.. The rain will be ending soon and the sun will be out. I bet the garden will grow very fast this coming week.
Isaac's blood glucose has been running higher the last few days.. I know he hasn't been as active outside because of all the rain..but I know that isn't all that factors in.. Maybe he is having a growth spurt or his honeymoon phase is slowing down...??..We may need another insulin change..We start his saline trial Friday for the omnipod!!!

Our family :)
Thank you Lord for a wonderful day!

Also while we were there I met a woman who commented about our JDRF walk shirt...She ask if someone I knew was affected by type 1..of course I told her about Isaac and she went on to say that her grandson was diagnosed a few years ago and that her daughter who is a scientist switched her studies and  is now doing research for type 1 diabetes and that they had been having great success with beta cells growing much faster in space..and of course that would help lessen the need for donors for transplantation, etc..
I was not expecting to meet anyone on top of that mountain in NC affected by type 1.. You just never know..  :)

Trying out the "demo" pod

We received our demo omnipod yesterday. This is a tube-less insulin pump. Of course this one doesn't have insulin.. we are just trying it out to see how wearing it feels. We are planning on talking to our endo. next week about pumps and continous glucose monitors. The pod is still "sticking" today. The new smaller pods are supposed to be out soon... :)

Another insulin change..

Isaac has been having several low bg's. The Endo. changed his insulin again. Thank God he hasn't had any lows in 2 days.. He was having them everyday. He is not taking much insulin right now. When we left the hospital he was 1-15 for all meals and 12.5 lantus.. (His lantus had went down to 1 in the past-up to 5 now back down to 3). Novolog is only if he is above 200 at breakfast and lunch (sliding scale which isn't much either) and 1/2 u per 45gc at supper. I have taken things like the weather/food/exercise etc. into consideration on the breakfast/lunch deal  and changed accordingly. He was only getting apx. half a unit at breakfast-.5-1 u for lunch with previous ratios anyway. Fri. he went low by lunch without having any insulin @ breakfast.... I guess this is what the "honeymoon" phase is all about. Our upcoming Endo. appt. is next week. Looking forward to seeing what is A1C is. At diagnosis on Dec. 27, 2010 his A1C was. 13.2. On Jan. 3, still in hospital it was 12.5 He was in the hospital for nine days. Dec.27- Jan. 4.   Feb. 3, with 1 month of treatment his A1C was 9.3(of course that had 2 months of pre diagnosis highs in there.) The Endo. is wanting it below 8 @ next appt. I hope it is much less than that.. We are still on MDI. When the time comes, he is wanting the omnipod..(of course because it is tube-less and if we get a pump.. I def. want a CGM.!) Our Endo. is over 2 hours away.. I wish the local hospital could find a new ped. endo for our area... Anyway.. I am so thankful for insulin and newer advances in care for pwd.
God is good-All the time.
