Stitches/Fillet Knife Laceration....

The boys have been catching catfish/trout..they clean them and eat them :) Yesterday after a fishing trip they were getting ready to fillet a few. Abram was sharpening the fillet knife and on his final swipe the knife bounced off and cut his finger. It was in the bend of his joint and would need stitches.

 The CNP did a block instead of just numbing it at the laceration. You can see the xylocaine swelling up the tissue at his knuckle in the above picture.

 Four sutures/stitches later he was finished.

They dressed the wound and put his finger in a splint.
 He was ready to go fishing.. :)  lol-Tough boy.. :)

They believe there is no nerve or major blood vessel injury/damage. Just need to watch for signs of that and infection. The stitches should be removed in apx. ten days..

Squirrel Stew/Squirrel gravy

 Abram supplied the squirrels..lol * He also skinned/cleaned them.

 We put the squirrels in a slow cooker with seasoning,carrots,onions and potatoes. Cooked on high for about 4 hours.

We had the stew with biscuits. We have another squirrel left in the freezer...guess I will be making "requested" squirrel gravy one morning this week :)

Opening day of hunting season!! 9-24-2011

We were all headed into the woods by 6:00 this morning. No one got a shot before lunch. After a big dinner- Jacob, Marty and Isaac went back into the woods to hunt this evening. Jacob got a doe! A good start to season. :) I am very proud of you Jacob..He killed his first deer at age 5 and has been providing meat ever since.... :)

Football injuries/ Winning a giveaway

Last week football practice ended with Abram having a broke finger and Isaac having a torn patellar ligament..(result of stepping into a HOLE -while running routes in the field-not being hit! They need a better practice field...) Jacob hasn't been injured..yet... We get results back today from an x-ray taken over the weekend to see if Isaac has a complete tear/broken kneecap. His bg's are running HIGHER. Guess it's from the injury...hormones being released, etc. Plus he's can't be as active as usual and I think he is also starting to come out of the honeymoon phase...I gave him 3 corrections yesterday, also thought about raising his basal. We will see what today brings.

Guess I will be heading to the garden to gather some corn, tomatoes, cabbage, peppers, cucumbers and blackberries.

Abram's 14 th Birthday catch :)

Abram and his uncle Chad went bass fishing today as a birthday treat..LOL
Abram had the biggest catch of the day :) He is planning on getting his bass mounted.
In all they caught 14. The date is wrong on the camera...So thankful for loving family that
care enough to make his birthday extra special. God is good~All the time.
