"Buzzard"

This is a view from our front porch..This
scavanger bird is looking as majestic as
an eagle...Funny- I've never thought of
Buzzard's as being majestic before...Ha Ha.
All of God's creatures have a purpose. :)

Wished my camera had a better zoom...We
checked the yardage of how far the bird was
away from us and it was 200 yards..This
is the buzzard drying it's wings - we had just
had a break from one of the several rain showers
that we had yesterday. We watch several birds on
this perch..Many seem to like this spot..

Pickin' Blueberries

We picked 4 gallon of blueberries yesterday.
We got rained on! It was fun spending time
with family and friends in a summer downpour
in a blueberry field.. :D

I washed them and removed the stems.

I placed them in quart freezer bags. We had
17 bags today.. We may go pick more next
week.

Blackberries

This is a dish of wild blackberries. It seems to take so
long to pick these because they are so much smaller
than the tame blackberries that we have. :)
My boys love to eat blackberry
cobblers..haha -With ice cream of course..
We are planning on going blueberry picking soon.
They are so good in fruit smoothies..

Sweet banana peppers from the garden.

I wash them and remove the seeds and then
slice them.

I dice them into small cubes.

I had 4 cups this day.

I place them into my freezer bag and freeze.
I use these for soups, chili and baked beans..
I do the same thing with my other types of
peppers.

Canning Mustard Greens

Pick lots of mustard greens..

Wash them in the sink.

Get them ready to put into a very
large pot of boiling water.

Watch out for these little critters.

The greens after they are taken out of the
boiling water..This makes them easier to
pack into jars.

Place into quart jars with 1 tsp. of canning salt
and fill the rest with water.

Place into your canner. *(10lbs. of pressure.)
Process for 1 hour..

I made 14 quarts this day. This takes several
hours from the picking ,washing, wilting and
placing into jars and canning them....But well
worth it. :)

Making kraut.

The veins in the cabbage remind of the
coranary arteries in the heart.

The signs were in the head so it was time to
make some kraut.. I used two cabbage heads
today.. There are plenty more in the garden..
I also make kraut when the signs are in the
heart.

I cut the cabbage off of the head and place into
my large metal pan. We eat the left over cabbage
stalk..YUM.

Not quite ready..I will chop some more.. :)

Just the right texture. Now I pack the
cabbage tightly into my quart jars. I also add
1Tblsp. of vinegar,1tsp. of canning salt and finish
filling the jars with water..

I made 6 quarts today. I place them on a
towel and let them ferment and spew for
several days before I put them away.
I made a dish of slaw with the left over
cabbage..
